At Tamworth Eye Centre, the team is dedicated to providing exceptional ophthalmic care in a state-of-the-art facility located near Tamworth's CBD.

Led by Dr. Peter Hinchcliffe, an experienced ophthalmic surgeon with a comprehensive medical background, the team specializes in a range of eye health services including cataract treatment, glaucoma management, and complex eyelid surgery.

Supporting him is a skilled team of professionals, including Practice Manager, Isobel and Registered Nurse, Kate Chapman, known for her expertise in patient education.

The practice is committed to delivering personalized and high-quality care for all patients.

Dr Peter Hinchcliffe graduated from Flinders University of South Australia’s Medical School in 1992 and completed his ophthalmic training at Sydney Eye Hospital and its network of affiliated hospitals in 2003. Along the way, he completed a Masters of Public Health from the University of Sydney.

Peter and his family moved to Tamworth from Sydney in 2005, attracted by the opportunity to pursue comprehensive practice in a rural environment. He divides his time between in Tamworth and Moree and holds appointments as a Visiting Medical Officer at Tamworth Base, Tamara Private and Moree District Hospitals.

Peter loves comprehensive medical and surgical ophthalmology, dealing with:

  • Anterior segment problems such as cataract and pterygium
  • Glaucoma
  • The medical management of retinal diseases
  • Complex eyelid surgery treating skin cancers and lid malposition
  • Watery eyes and lacrimal drainage pathology
  • Paediatric strabismus and visual development

Kate Chapman

Registered Nurse

Kate graduated from UNE with a degree in nursing in 1992. She has always worked in regional areas and has focused her career in the surgical fields of nursing.

Her clinical background has covered Orthopaedics to breast cancer and special interests have included pain management and wound care.

Kate came to Ophthalmology in 2014 after a period of time in nursing education. She has a special interest in patient education and continues to educate both staff and patients on the latest best practices in Ophthalmic care.

Kate is a member of the NSW Ophthalmology Nurses Association, attending regular workshops and conferences.
